1 million people watching fireworks

Held along the Shinano River, the display features massive fireworks, including the commemorative "White Chrysanthemum" honoring war victims. Key highlights include the "Phoenix" fireworks symbolizing earthquake recovery and various themed displays like "Hometown Is One." The event, rooted in a history of over 70 years, emphasizes peace and remembrance.

Each firework display at the Nagaoka Festival, set against Japan’s longest river, the Shinano River, carries deep significance. Notable displays include the "Tenchi-jin Fireworks" and "Kono Sora no Hana," honoring historical figures and films linked to Nagaoka. The "Phoenix Fireworks," born from prayers for recovery after the 2004 Chūetsu Earthquake, span an impressive 2 km with golden phoenix designs. The "Hometown Is One" fireworks explode to the song "Furusato wa Hitotsu," and the iconic "Kome Hyappyo Fireworks," commemorating the city's 80th anniversary, launch grand displays from up to eight locations.

The event combines historical significance, breathtaking pyrotechnics, and community spirit, attracting over a million visitors annually. Its vibrant atmosphere, deep cultural roots, and stunning visual effects make it a truly memorable experience.
